So, as an individual “essential”, who acknowledges her part of a greater system, I will continue to use my judgement wisely and beyond that, prioritize compassion. Since most of us don’t overtly have seats at this table right now, all we can do is control ourselves. This is not the time to retaliate for the sake of rebellion (despite how we feel about those doing the delegation) the moral circumstances are different this time. The situation is calling on us to recalibrate and adjust ourselves, for our own “greater good”. We all have a job within this network that will either make or break the outcomes. The point of the matter is, we are all “essential” especially with regards to containing this thing. It is, also, incredibly easy to criticize those who have been put in charge of these delegations largely because of the language they use. If you care to know, here’s what I’ve noticed: It’s incredibly difficult to define and make decisions for large groups, as we’ve seen through the many attempts from the ethical perspectives of leaders/philosophers for centuries (Kant, Bentham, etc). In a couple days, I’ll physically be back to work, as an “essential”, treating my own patients at another establishment. Essentially, I’ve been working from home supervising my students via telepractice since the outbreak-shutdown began.
